Event Details
This training will provide an introduction to psychosis and psychotic symptoms, drawing on the diagnostic framework of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR). We will explore the defining characteristics and manifestations of psychosis, the disorders within the schizophrenia spectrum, and how psychotic features may also occur in other psychiatric conditions.
For More Information:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify and describe the primary symptoms associated with psychosis, including delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking and speech, abnormal motor behavior (including catatonia), and negative symptoms.
- Differentiate among schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders by recognizing their defining characteristics, diagnostic criteria, and variations in symptom presentation and duration.
- Explain how psychotic features can occur in other psychiatric conditions, including those classified under Bipolar and Related Disorders and Depressive Disorders, and distinguish between primary psychotic disorders and conditions in which psychosis occurs as an associated feature.
